As the book opens, the old man has gone 84 days without a fish. I know the feeling, buddy. I can identify with a long losing streak, all right. But it happens that the old man once had an even longer losing streak, 87 days. After that streak broke, he caught big ones every day for three weeks. That I can't identify with."
