Chuckmeister Weiss..........

After honing his muskie fishing skills in the backwaters of Southern Ontario, artist Charles Weiss pays VBL a visit in his never ending quest for the elusive "lunge. Pictured above, Chuck unveils his new lure design...the "Fat Bastard" series. From left to right...the "Lil Fat Bastard", the "Jointed Lil Fat Bastard" and finally the ultimate "Big Fat Bastard". In the background, the original "Chubby Bastard".
Proving that "Love is......a small muskie" Diane poses for the camera after catching her very first muskellunge. Chuck, while trying to hide the bitterness, proudly holds the fiesty catch for his lovely bride.

The Legend of Big John

Sung to the tune of "Big John"....

Yes, Big John has big feet. Yes, he has big hands. And yes, those big hands can make large 26" walleyes look small.

Big John was new to bottom bouncing, but he picked up the technique well and caught a boat load of slot walleyes on the last day we were up at VBL.
Next year we will teach him how to hold a fish for a photo.

Professors Gone Wild

It was another great week of August fishing at VBL. The weather wasn't very cooperative with lots of rain and wind, but there were pike, walleye, trout and whitefish to be had by all.

This nice 40" pike powered its way out of the cabbage to hit a small shallow running shad rap. Professor Joe was able to coax a number of fine pike out of the same bay (Notice the absence of the right hand).

We didn't have a lot of slot walleyes untill the final day and a half of our trip. Big John was the king of the slot walleyes on the last day when Shawn, Bill, and Big John caught close to 40 slot walleyes. BigJohn and Andy both ended the week with a 26" walleye. We'll post a few more pictures later this week, but there were days the rain was coming down so hard, we didn't take pictures. The professor and his bionic red hand caught a very nice walleye on McGregor Lake. And Shawn was king of the trout holes while Bill was busy with the net.

Bill? When he wasn't busy with the net he was busy catching bait. If he wants to dispell that notion he'll have to bring in his camera and we'll post again with some of their catch from the last day.

Walleye Madness Week, 2009......

Well, the 4th Annual Walleye Madness Week has come and gone. The competition was run for three days (Monday-Wednesday) with an Awards Night and pot-luck dinner on Thursday. It was a tight finish with only a 2 point difference between first and second place. Marsha's persistence in fishing through a few rainy evenings paid off with a first place victory! It was a close call for 2nd place runner up Dick Miller......all he needed was one more release to put it in the bag. Overall the competition was quite "laid back" compared to previous years. Marsha has indicated she has thrown down the gauntlet to the "Professors" for next years Walleye Madness Week. Will they regain their throne? Will Marsha remain the Dominatrix? Stay tuned for the 2010 Walleye Madness Week.......July 24th to 31st.

Nice Bass.........

Here's a great picture that Jeff Campbell sent me of his "really nice bass" that he caught a few weeks back at VBL. It was 20 1/2 inches long and likely a 5 pound class fish......a great release. Congratulations Jeff!
