May time fishing at it's best

Now does the above pic show a "GRUMPY OL MAN"

My biggest walleye to date pushing 29"

26" wally

Bronze Back

Accidental Musky

Northern Pike

For all of you that have not made the trip North of the border in May for springtime fishing here are some pics to show you what you are missing by not making a trip to VBL in May.

As you can see from the pictures above Eagle Lake and Vermilion Bay Lodge has a lot to offer in May, yes the weather can change from winter to summer from one day to the next but the fishing is well worth it.

  3. Hello;
    V BAY lODGERS
    GREAT LOOKING FISH!
May seems to have a lot of fish catching action!
    Where are the lake trout?
ALSO, THE MUSKIE PHOTO SHOULD PROBABLY NOT HAVE IT'S PORTRAIT TAKEN UNTIL AFTER THE SEASON OPENS?

  4. Perchmaster,

Very impressive. However, if you are going to bat for the cycle, you have to include some pics of those bull perch? This winter's work load has been unbearable and I haven't even gotten out for a token ice fish tripping for perch on Mendota. How about a whole series of pics on perch....that ought to get Gord's blood pumping?

  5. Mr Anonymous is correct. Pictures of muskie pre-season are somewhat frowned upon. Perhaps an in-the-water shot would be better? I am still taking flack from Susanne over the last two muskies she caught (sans photo) with me before the season opened.

  6. Gord,

I have heard that pre-season photos of muskies is frowned upon and even illegal. Can you scan the regulations and post any language from the regs that you find? I understand that the fish are a little sensitive at this time of year, but it does make me wonder if this is much different then an in-season photo of a musky that is in the release size range? If the regs say something vague like "must be quickly released", perhaps they should be edited to be more specific like "photo's prohibited". Last year I fished the Perchmaster's other "un-named" perch lake, and was told by a few anglers that you couldn't even have lures in the tackle box that might be considered a "musky" lure. Are the rules really that vague or are they just interpreted in absurd ways by the enforcement agents? I would really like to avoid the Canadian slammer. I hear they rival those in Turkey.

  7. Could not agree more about May @ VBL. What a great time to test the waters...especially for those Lakers. Nothing better than 25" Lakers in water 20' or less!

  8. Perchmaster...I don't believe it's been said on this blog before, so let me be the first---"You Are the Man". Keep up the good work.

  10. Thanks guy's for the positive posts and YES I did figure to take some flack on the musky but is was returned to the water and swam away just fine. Took a couple of fast picks and proper release was done and no harm was done to the musky.
Those that know me know I would not want to harm the musky future of Eagle Lake.
I still love that picture of Gord he reminds me more of GUMBY now that I look at it...
And Dustin we will be pulling in May 21st in the evening hope that is when you plan to be there those giant lake trout await....
I can see Gord now dreaming of cleaning "BULL PERCH" already..

  11. Andy, the regulation states that any fish accidentaly caught during a closed season must immediately be released back to the water. A game warden could consider the act of taking pictures of your catch as not complying with this, but I am not sure if that is an offence you could be charged with. Now, if for some reason you had a camera full of these types of shots, and a tackle box full of muskie lures....chances are good you would take some heat.
