Fishing update......

Here are a few pictures off my camera. Water temperatures are unusually cold still.....barely 50 degrees. I think we will still have good shallow water trout fishing for the upcoming week but temps are supposed to improve. This will get the walleye a little more active although we did pretty well once we located them. Maybe another week and the bass will hit the spawning beds. A trip to Caribou is something I will report back on.

  1. What happened to the picture of a sink full of those bull perch?

  2. Apparently the water temps were too cold for the Perch Queens. I do have a very small sinkful picture I may post. I past on your suggestion of a location but it fell on deaf ears. Perchmast did catch two 28 inch walleyes, so I guess he had his sights set on bigger fish!

  3. See....we told you there were Smallies over there!!

Some nice catches, no doubt. I've only be home 3 days, and I'm already ready to come back. I plan on posting my report (and sending you pictures) tonight!

We did look it over on our way out the other day but like I said water temps need to be much warmer for the perch, water temps in the 40's are not ideal in any way for perch.
And yes Gord I did set my sights to bigger things with the colder water, when you catch a 28 and 27" walleye 5 minutes apart and follow up that evening with another 28" walleye what can you do.

  6. Yes, a rare shot of Mark, in all his glory. Usually all you get is the back of his big melon or his armpit! I think he was too frozen to get out of the way of the camera!

  7. Perchmaster,

Three walleyes over 7 pounds is a great day on any body of water. Nice job! Now however, I am regretting not coming up in early June to fill up Gord's sink with some of those nice perch. I'm worried he might get a little rusty? Next year I might have to go back to a two trip schedule at VBL. The walleye fishing in late August is just too good to pass up and the weather is beautiful.

Yes it is and when you get good walleye fishing it is hard to pass up, the only thing that would stop me would be to chase the Monsters of Eagle and that being the musky.
One of these day's I will be headed up during the summer for 4 or 5 day's to chase those monsters, think Gord will cut me a deal?

  9. Perchmaster,

You need to talk to Gord again. I think we all agree that his rates are reasonable, but he provides a 10% discount for a second trip in the same year. Come back up the third week in August when we are up and the Professor will demonstrate how to catch monster lakers with one rubber hand. Once you get the deep water bite down, the walleye fishing can be hot and heavy. Toss in deep water jigging for lake trout and whitefish, along with some great weather, and you have the recipe for a great return trip.

I know Gord takes care of repeat customers I just have to RAZZZZZZ him a little. If I did not RAZZZZZZ him it just would not be right. For what he charges it is money well spent as far as I am concerned. That week would not work for me anyways I have a vacation week in July and then October and 2 weeks in November. It is on my list believe me.
