More building pictures.......

Well, despite the constant drizzle, showers, rain, etc. things are progressing. I'm REALLY looking forward to having it closed in and weather-tite. The last picture shows one of the two dormer roofs being framed in.
The weather people say this is the coolest summer since 1992...the first year we ran the camp. I remember that summer as being very wet ......kind of like 2009! Will it ever end....................

Sarah's Walleye.......

Last week Sarah Walker caught her first walleye (a beautiful 22 incher) and asked if I would be putting it up on the chalk board in the fish house. My reply was that it had to be over the slot to qualify for that honor, but if she sent me a picture of her release I would post it on the blog. Well, there it is, a very nice looking fish that put up a good fight for her. Her sister Mary, bottom picture, had luck with some nice eater pike. Their dad, muskie guide Brad Walker and rod maker (Teal River Rods) had a run-in with two mid forty inch muskies..............Brad promises to work on his hook set for next year!

Here's a few shots of the work in progress. The pieces were delivered and then put together on the addition floor. A total of four "bents" are now complete and stacked up on the floor. Today is the day that the pieces go up..........I will update later.

Corso Family Vacation.....

The Corso family from Iowa was up last week and had an enjoyable week of fishing for trout, walleye and muskie. Larry admits to not being much of a walleye guy but seemed to have them figured out by the number of walleye they ended up catching near a secret spot (14 feet using minnows) around 5th & Broadway. On their last day the family did a hamburger shore lunch on a sand beach island and then did a little casting in a nearby weedbed. Larry seemed to have the golden horseshoe and ended up with a 38 & 42 incher from the same spot! I suggested to Larry that he needs to work on his "smile" for future photo shoots! A few years back Larry observed a muskie in the trout holes that he says was easily 60 pounds.......the fish swam by his boat while he was trout fishing in 70 feet of water!

Fish Pics.......

Here's a few shots from the past couple of weeks. At the top "Super Ed Perkis" and a 38 or 32 inch muskie (not sure which one...he caught both). Ed was the winner of the Ice out contest this spring and made off with a camo hoodie from the VBL vault. Next, Terry Clark with a 27 inch release from the Walleye Highway (nice color coordinated shades and shirt!)....followed by young Ryan Ellinger with his biggest ever 24 inch walleye. This was a "money fish" for that day....no wonder he was smiling! Hugh Ferry with an eater (or slot?) off of the Highway, trolling Tail Dancers. Finally, a fine specimen of Eagle Lake muskie caught and released by Danny Perkis within site of camp.......43 inches of "finned fury".

The photo artwork of Henry Morawski........

These fine fish in the reclining position are some of Henry's recent catch while muskie fishing here at VBL. Included are a 36 " muskie, a 39 " northern, and several of the walleye he caught up to 27 inches while casting. I believe his total was 25 walleye in, or above, the slot while casting.
.......and yes, before anyone pipes up, this is not the recommended catch & release method we would ideally like to see at the lodge. In Henry's defence he does fish alone, and is very effecient in releasing all his fish in good condition. The carpet is pretty soft too.........
